The Downtown Whitby Business Improvement Area (BIA) was established through By-law #7268-17 by Whitby Town Council on April 10, 2017. The BIA, governed by a Board of Management, has been established to oversee the improvement, beautification, and maintenance of municipally-owned land, buildings, and structures in the BIA beyond that provided at the expense of the municipality generally, and to promote the area as a business and shopping area.

Call for Nominations for Directors to the Board of Management

Persons interested in serving on the Board of Management for the BIA are encouraged to submit a nomination to the Executive Director, Downtown Whitby BIA, on the prescribed form, available by emailing info@whitbybia.org 

In accordance with the Board of Management Terms of Reference, eight (8) persons who own or lease commercial or industrial property within the BIA boundary, shall be appointed by the general membership to the Board of Management.  As per section 3.2, when (3) vacancies become available the Board the Board may advertise for the nomination of individuals to fill the vacancies at its next Annual General Meeting (AGM). 

Nominations are to be provided to the Town Clerk in writing for consideration and appointment by Council.

Nominations will be accepted until 4:30pm on Tuesday, December 8, and may be delivered in person to the Downtown Whitby BIA office (inside the Whitby Chamber of Commerce at 209 Dundas St. E. LL5) or by email to info@whitbybia.org

Meeting of the Membership to Appoint Directors

This meeting is being held to consider and recommend the appointment of individuals to the Board of Management.  The recommended nominees will be provided to Whitby Town Council for final approval and appointment.

Members of the BIA, being those who own or lease commercial or industrial property in the BIA, or those acting on behalf of a corporation that is an owner or tenant of commercial or industrial land in the BIA may attend the December 15 meeting to vote on each nominee presented.  BIA members are entitled to one vote for each nominee regardless of the number of properties they own or lease.
